ISO has a new initiative, the ISO Prize, a unique recognition to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the understanding or use of ISO standards. The winner of the award will receive 20 000 Swiss francs to finance a project or research.

“There are many standards ambassadors in business, government and academia”, says ISO Secretary-General Rob Steele, “people, or rather leaders, who realize the benefits of ISO standards and work hard to encourage their use. With this prize and money, we would like to recognize these efforts and encourage future projects.”

“What’s unique about this prize is that we are reaching outside of the ISO community,” explains the Secretary-General. “Our existing awards target experts from our committees or members. This time, we want to take it farther. In particular, we would like to encourage younger individuals, ideally no older than 45 years old, who are speaking and breathing standards.”

Are you eligible?

In order to apply for this award you must be:

  • An individual (it’s not possible to apply on behalf of a company or organization), ideally under the age of 45
  • From outside the ISO community (that is, not working for the ISO Central Secretariat, an ISO member, an ISO technical committee or a national mirror committee)
  • Available to travel to St. Petersburg during the week 16 – 20 September (costs will be paid by ISO) where the winner will give a guest presentation on the subject of the award.

How to apply

Please explain in 300 words how you have made a significant contribution to the understanding or use of ISO standards in a way that addresses economic, technological and/or societal challenges.

In addition, send us a 150 word proposal for a project to research or finance the implementation of an ISO standard in a way that clearly addresses economic, environmental and/or societal challenges.

Applications must be made to isoprize@iso.org before 5 July 2013.

Prize

  • 20 000 CHF to finance the project proposed
  • Travel and accommodation to the ISO GA.
